INFO
CO2 System
Irrespective of the time of year, the water level and the lighting conditions, tropical waters, especially flowing waters, are surprisingly stable. Factors such as the pH value, the CO2 content, and the degree of hardness, fluctuate only insignificantly. A protected water stability in the aquarium is ensured by using the Dupla CO2 system:
1. constant pH value. In the ideal mixed aquarium with ornamental fish from geographically and chemically different waters, it is advisable to choose a neutral setting of pH 7. Even in special aquariums where particular species of fish such as discus fish are kept or bred, the CO2 system has great advantages. Due to the precise CO2 dosage, both acidic and alkaline pH ranges can be programmed and kept stable.
2. stable carbonate hardness. In an aquarium suffering from a lack of CO2 the plants use up carbon. During this process, known as biogenous decalcification, the carbonate hardness is reduced to dangerously low levels and the pH value becomes highly unstable. A sufficient level of CO2 prevents a biogenous decalcification and ensures the stability of the water.
3. optimal supply of CO2 for aquarium plants. Submersed water plants usually meet their carbon need by way of the gaseous carbon dioxide dissolved in the water. The Dupla CO2 fertiliser ensures an optimal supply of carbon.
Dupla Thermik Set
The Dupla Thermik Set plays a crucial role in ensuring ideal living conditions in the aquarium. By upwelling the heated water on the ground, the heating cable on the aquarium bed integrates the bed into the chemical and physical cycle of the entire aquarium. This ideal heating system for aquariums meets not just one but several requirements:
1. As in natural waters, the ground is also heated. If only the aquarium water is heated, as is the case when using a bar heater, the water may be warm but the aquarium bed will still have room temperature, thus making plants suffer from the notorious cold feet.
2. A ground heating system copies the groundwater current found in natural waters, the roots are supplied with nutrients, and the substances given off by the roots are carried off.
3. A stable redox potential in the ground, preventing it from turning black. In connection with Dupla Root (see Dupla fertilising system), the plants are supplied with an ideal iron depot such as that of tropical waters.
4. Complete safety for man and animal, even when damaged.
Fertilising System
Contrary to tropical plant waters, our tap water significantly lacks certain nutrients. Many essential plant nutrients and trace elements are missing or are extracted from the water during treatment in the waterworks. Yet if so much as one nutrient is missing, the plants stop growing and may even die (Liebig's Law of the Minimum). In order to ensure a healthy plant growth in the aquarium, the nutrient gap in our tap water must be filled and the water enriched so that tap water becomes good aquarium water.
It is crucial here that the nutrients are in a very specific proportion to each other. What makes solving this problem so difficult are certain "critical nutrients", especially iron and a number of trace elements. They are only required in tiny amounts. In aquariums, they must not be given for days and weeks in advance, such as when changing the water. This situation is made even more difficult by the fact that various trace elements are not used by the plants but are precipitated through chemical reactions. Because of this, fertilising plants in the aquarium has always encountered particular problems.
Dupla solves all the nutrient problems by providing an ideally balanced fertilising system consisting of only three components.
