Artemia

Artemia brine shrimp is the ideal live food for rearing young fish, they are rich in natural nutrients and are free are of pathogenic agents that can cause damage in aquaria. They are easy to breed using the HOBBY Artemia System featured on this page.

These small crustaceans have been around for many millions of years and although saltwater animals they are found exclusively in inland salt lakes, salt marshes and salt flats. The eggs are harvested sorted and packed for use by fish breeders the world over.

Once revived with Artemia Salt mixed into water, the eggs should hatch within a few days. If you are are unsure of the correct amount of salt, Artemix is a ready-made mixture of eggs and the correct proportion of salt for succesful breeding.

Once hatched, Liquizell is the ideal starter food, and Mikrozell is suited to fully formed artemia after 8-10 days. Young Artemia are also refered to as nauplia.
